Day trip

We are planning to take a day trip at end April from Paris to Strasbourg and I am wondering how many hours would be good to have to walk around, have a meal or two, and check out the shopping?? I was thinking maybe 5 or 6 hours. Are there any sights we should be sure not to miss? Also how far is it from the train station to city centre? Is it walkable or should we take a taxi and if so approx cost of taxi? Thanks so much for any info. We really are anxious to see this city!

Hi Jojo

It has been a few years since I have been to Strasbourg so maybe someone else could offer better advice.

The train station is in easy walking distance of the centre, I don%26#39;t think there is any need for a taxi.

We found it was a really nice city just to have a wander around, I think 5 or 6 hours would be a good time to have there.

The only real sight we saw was the Cathedral which is worth it. The other thing we did which I would recommend was a boat trip, it was a really nice way to see some of the city. Have a look at http://www.strasbourg.info/sightseeing/. I see they have a tourist train as well, we didn%26#39;t go on it (not sure if was even there then) but they are often a good way to have a short tour of a city.

Hope this is useful

Thanks Alison for the great info. Although Paris is our %26quot;Happy Place%26quot; we are so looking forward to visiting Strasbourg since we love that German touch too!

hi jojo Alisonfrance%26#39;s advice is accurate. We were in Strasbourg in june 08. We walked from the centre to the station with cases and it was about 15/20 minutes. The city is quite compact. The cathedral dominates and the surrounding square was full of cafe%26#39; and bars that are nice. The boat trip on the cannals was really worth it. The comentary was excellent and the view from the water of the European Parliament etc much better than from the shore. It%26#39;s not a %26quot;wow%26quot; place to visit but very nice all the same. It%26#39;s quite different to Paris, and the train station etc is very user friendly (like the rst of the excellent French rail system)

Hi nzMike57 - Thanks for the info about the boat trip. That sounds great. Can you give me any direction where to catch it? And thanks for the time range to walk to the center...very helpful.
