I cannot give specifics because it is over a decade since I have camped there, but there are many gated, secure camp grounds all over France. You can buy the Michelin quide to campgrounds which has a comprehensive list with ratings.

Hi sully011

We have stayed in Normandy many times over the last 20 years with various ages of children and their grandparents and have decided where to stay depending on the circumstances.

So do you want beach, countryside, towns? Will you be taking your own tent or do you want to hire a caravan / mobile home? There are lots campsites that cater for each, with and without chidrens clubs.

If you%26#39;re not firmly attached to a campsite there are delightful cottages / gites to rent which will not cost anymore than a caravan. These will usually be quieter than a campsite and have more space and equipment.

We have a few suggestions depending on what you%26#39;d prefer - just let me know!

hi sybil our plan is to go with keycamps and hire a mobile home or caravan.my husband and son are world war two fanatics so to be near the beaches would be fantastic.however my daughter and I would love to visit norman castles and ruins etc.....you cant let the boys have all their own way!so a happy medium would be good if you have any suggestions,we dont mind driving either. thanks!

The most central keycamp site for the WW2 sites is La Vallee, near Houlgate.

We have stayed here with keycamp - it is a good site. It doesn%26#39;t have a great deal of facilities (no huge pool with slides) but is near one of the best beaches in the area. We have spent some lovely holidays in this area and that beach is long, clean and usually not very busy. The town of Houlgate is OK - not much there but the neighbouring Dives sur mer has one of the best French markets we%26#39;ve ever been to (and we are veterans!)

Along the coast is La Cote de Nacre - not stayed here so check to see if there are tripadvisor reports but it is also central.

Further along is the castels site at St Pair sur mer (castels are always of a good standard). This is further away from the WW2 beaches but near the wonderful Mont St Michel and the lovely towns of Avranches and Granville

We were in Normandy with my father for the 60th anniversary (he is a paratrooper normandy veteran) and we stayed in Dives sur mer as a very good base for the beaches and inland sites. We hired a house privately on the Port Guillame marina complex which was an excellent base (had a swimming pool) and great to return to the peace in the evening.

So, any of the campsites would be good depending on what facilities you want (check their site) but if you%26#39;re not ones for the clubs etc think about a house or gite - much more room.

Hope this helps - and enjoy it!

Sybil - we stayed in La Vallee last July and the kids were delighted to find that they had added in an extra pool with slides during the winter of 2007/08.

The kids were delighted.

Its a lovely safe site with barrier access.

As Sybil has said, Sully, La Vallee is ideal for the WWII beaches.

Bayeux is a short drive away and is a lovely town to spend time in.
