Lyon or Geneva?

I am going to a wedding in France in August and was planning to fly to either Geneva or Lyon as the wedding is between the two places. I hoped to spend a few days in either place sight seeing, enjoying the local food and drink and generally letting my hair down! Just not sure which one is better. I%26#39;ve looked at the traveller photos for each and thought Geneva looked like it lacked the historical buildings that Lyon had - perhaps not a fair assumption?! Wondered if could anyone give a more informed view?

If you think as Geneva itself, I think that Lyon as far much to see and to do; Lyon history has a lot of remains, from Roman theaters to one of the best preserved Renaissance district in France, or the historical silk workers area. But as you will be here in August, you may consider the attractiveness of the lake in summertime?

You don%26#39;t mention how many days you have, you might be able to get in two different places? Regarding lake shores, I prefer Annecy lake to Geneva%26#39;s. Annecy has a lovely old town, the mountains landscape is very beautiful and the beaches are great! You mention travellers photos, I suggest that you browse these websites to make up your mind:

Thank you so for your helpful reply. I think you%26#39;re right as I only have a few days Geneva would probably be more managable. I will check out those sights just to get excited about my forthcoming travels!

Although Geneva is nice, I would choose Lyon hands down. So much culture and great food, not to mention cheaper than Geneva!

Just an afterthought, some restaurants and cafes in France do shut up shop in August, but with central places you should be fine.
