I am off to Paris for a couple of weeks- probably mid October but maybe November. I sometimes stay with friends/family but if I bring more than 1 of my semigrown children, I almost always rent. I know the economic down turn is affecting France and of course the US. I havent seen many %26quot;sales%26quot; on VRBO or on some of the agency websites. Do you think the vacaton rental market is softening and more importantly will this result in some price competition?

Interestingly enough, I just made plans for an October trip myself last week. I always rent through VIP. When I inquired about the availability of one of their nicer, more expensive apts, I was told it was available. By the time I finalized my plans three days later it was booked. I thought I had all the time in the world to make my decision but I was told that business is brisk for the fall months. But if you look at the website, there are many incentive offers for the current months. And the airfares are very attractive for current and immediate future fares. So I%26#39;m guessing that people are hopeful for the fall tourist season.

I%26#39;ve been researching like crazy to get a %26quot;good deal%26quot; for a flat rental, through various websites (recommended by TA: i.e. centreparis.com, perfectlyparis.com, abritel.fr, parisnet.net). Even when the flat is listed at a particular price, I%26#39;ve found that the owners are willing to negotiate. Of course, my trip is pretty last minute (in March), so they may just be trying to unload. But it%26#39;s always better to ask than assume. Good luck! =D

Check out http://www.paris-flats.com . We have a 2br/2ba apartment rented for early March 09, booked mid Jan 09, located on Isle de la Cite. Rate was €1800/wk but got a 10pct discount for off season.
