Hi, we are looking for a one day driven tour around Paris and possibly an escorted walking tour. Are there any that do not cost 3-4 hundred a day? Thanks for any suggestions.

Why don%26#39;t you take the hop-on hop-off bus??
paristoolkit.com/briefing/paris_bus_tours.htm
the paristoolkit website also suggests a few %26#39;escorted%26#39; bus tours (although they are not the only ones available) and has suggestions for DIY walking tours.
%26#39;googling%26#39; Paris walking tours came up with this site, among others:

I highly recommend the chocolate walking tour offered by Paris Walking Tours. Our guide was a very sweet American now living in Paris and she was very knowledgeable. Enjoyed the history. Plus, you can%26#39;t beat all the chocolate samples you get to try!
I also have done the gourmet food walking tour offered by Viator, and I was the only person on this tour (this was in March -- not the height of tourist season), and it was wonderful, too.

The above linked Paris walking tours are a good idea b/c you don%26#39;t have to book in advance, just show up at the meeting place and pay (small sum), and the tours are not terribly long.
There are coach tours that give an overview of Paris for a couple hours (google Parisvision and Cityrama), but if weather is good and you%26#39;re able, a bike tour is probably more fun and interactive (google Fat Tire Bike Paris; there are others, too).

These tours are given by local volunteers who speak English and are willing to show you their Parisian neighborhoods:

Tours are free but there is a modest registration fee.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. Will look them up, as we did contact one person and she wants 350 Euros for the day. Beyond what we want to pay. Once again, thank you.

Another highly recommended walking tour company is Paris Walks http://www.paris-walks.com These are group walks, though, and I am not sure if you meant private tours.
I have also read about Michael Osman, a private tour guide who is very popular. www.geocities.com/parisfinder/index.html
I am not sure how much he charges.
Have a great trip!

Any of the Paris Walks tours is a good idea.
The minuses are that you are in a group which might be fairly large as there are no reservations and they don%26#39;t seem to have a limit to the number of people. You sometimes have trouble hearing the guide speak because of the size of the group and because some of the walks are along noisy streets and there is traffic.
But they are only 10 euros per person and last two hours and give you a good idea of the area where the walk takes place - the Marais, the Latin Quarter, Montparnasse, etc. You can do a mornig walk then go back and explore on your own in the afternoon. The guides are bi-lingual and very knowledgeble.

Hello there,
As a member of the above-mentioned Paris Greeter association, I%26#39;m encouraging you to go with them.
It%26#39;s almost free (10 euros for the 2-3h walking tour), groups of 1 to 6 people max.
Guides will take you anywhere you want, and show you off the beaten track spots.
If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line at cyberlp@noos.fr
Have a good trip in Paris!
