Drive from Paris to Dordogne

Hi, am trying to find the most economical way to get to the Dordogne (most of the money is going on a wonderful property). Thinking of Eurostar to Paris Gare du Nord then collecting a car and driving down to the Dordogne. Has anyone ever done this? Is it a nightmare getting out of Paris (Gare du Nord)? I realise it will take about 5-6 hours. There will be 3 of us driving so that should help. I think it will be cheaper than getting on trains or even flying to say Bergerac.

Anyones thoughts will be much appreciated.

You didn%26#39;t mention how far out your trip is. If more than 90 days, you might want to check the train fares exactly 90 days out, because if you get the least expensive (%26quot;prem%26quot;) and book on line, you can sometimes get true bargains. Then you would pick up your car at whichever is your arrival station, and the major train stations always have mutiple car agencies right outside (most likely you would go to Brive or Perigueux, depending on which part of the Dordogne is your destination - take the Metro from Gare du Nord to the departure station, Austerlitz for Brive and probably for Perigueux although I have not done that train trip).

Alternatively, you could drive (would take longer but probably would be slightly less expensive than three discount train tickets, even include fuel and tolls) although you might want to take RER or Metro to a rental location on the outskirts, if driving within Paris makes you nervous.

Thanks for the advice Berkeley travelers. We have decided against driving and will be flying in to Limoge airport (from the UK). Looking forward to our trip in August.
