Val Thorens- Which ski pass

Off to Val Thorens in Feb for 1 week, I cant wait!

I could do with a little advice to help make my mind up on which pass I should buy.

I have skid before and I%26#39;m a good intermediate but my kids have only 2 weeks experience on snow. That said, we did Borovets last year and come the end of the week, we did run out of challenges and got slightly bored.

Would the local Val Thorens pass be enough to avoid boredom or should I opt for the full 3 Valleys (much more expensive!) pass?

Any input most welcome.

grungy, i would say that there is plenty on the local pass to keep you busy for a week, however you may want to upgrade to the area pass for a day or so just to experience what the other valleys have to offer.

hope this helps a bit

Grungy,

In the last few years i have stayed in Meribel and also Courcheval 1850, all part of the Valley network. I would suggest that getting the full pass is the way forward and there is a some wonderful skiing to be done elsewhere... The cost of daily upgrades i feel is a little steep....

I too am going to Val Thorens this year with a mixed group of experienced and second timers and we will all be purchasing the full monty.

Hope this helps.

Hi Grungy,

I don%26#39;t know if your kids are really young or teenagers but if they are new to skiing I would agree with Addo1 and just stick with the Val Thorens pass and maybe upgrade for a day if you fancy a change.

Also see my post below about buying a family pass (2 adults + 2 children up to age 18) rather than 4 individual passes for which kids are adults at 13! This could save you over 140 Euros on a 6 day Val Thorens pass. Not sure if this is available to buy from reps or in the resort but it is certainly available for buying online - see link below

I would say Val Thorens only is the best way to go until your kids are a bit older.

There%26#39;s lots to explore in Val Thorens, and you can always pop over to the Orelle valley for a little adventure with the kids as a pre-cursor to taking them over to Meribel and possibly Courchevel in years to come.

Many thanks everyone for the advice so far. We are going to Val Thorens at Easter. My wife is a good intermediate the 3 children and I have a weeks skiing. If we get the family %26#39;Val Thorens%26#39; pass is it faily easy to get daily upgrades? Do you just go to the ski office with your pass and upgrade it for the day? Anyone know how much it is?
