Hi everyone, me and my wife will be visiting Paris in March. I am a huge WW2 history fan and want to visit the beaches or Normandy. I have been reading all the different questions and answers on this forum but still not quite sure what to do. So we want to know what would be easier or suggest best for us. Taking the train from paris to Bayeux and getting a tour there? Renting a car and going on our own once we get there by train from paris? Or just pay for a tour that picks us up from paris and do the all day tour? However from the prices i noticed that%26#39;s the most expensive one! I prefer not to do a whole day tour because of the prices, but if its more convinient then maybe we will. However we only have 3 days in Paris, so we want to do either a half day or a full day tour at the most. Any suggestions will be gladly appreciated.

I would take a train from Paris (St. Lazare station) to Bayeux, late in the day if you want more time in Paris. You can travel for as little as 26 Euros one way, and the trip takes about two hours. As the tours start early in the morning, I would arrive the night before your tour. Driving to Paris would not be fun, and you can enjoy the countryside and relax on a train!
Spend the night in Bayeux and take a full day tour on either Overlord, the tour we took, or Battlebus. The cost for each is about 80 Euro/person and well worth the expense. You%26#39;ll see more and get a better perspective of the operation than trying to tour on your own. We have done it both ways, and there is no comparison.
You could return to Paris the night of your tour, but staying another night in Bayeux will be less expensive. I recommend the Hotel Churchill, about 105 Euros/night, and dining at Le Drakkar with its varied menu and reasonable prices.
It is possible to make a day trip from Paris to Bayeux, taking a half day tour. But, if you really want to delve into the history and have a good D Day experience, take the full day tour and spend some time in the area. If you travel to Bayeux in the late afternoon or evening and take an early train back the morning after your tour, you will not cut too much into your time in Paris.
Our D Day trips have been among our most memorable. Have a wonderful trip!

Sal91106,
If you are going to do the battlebus tour then you should get reservations soon. I hear they book early. I booked my tours for April in Dec. I also would stay in Bayeux for at least one night. The Bayeux tapestry is also a nice visit while you are there. Have a fun trip.
