April is too early.
May, particularly late May, is comfortable and especially appealing on warm sunny days.
Don%26#39;t forget the sunscreen.

Thanks, Im curious how do you know so much about France being a texan ?

I%26#39;d say that the sea will be rather chilly for a 5 year old.

In May it seems chilly to me, never mind a 5-year-old. Perhaps I%26#39;m too acclimatised.

We spend up to 2 months a year in France. Much of that time along the coast on the Golfe de Aigues Mortes.

Hi
Sea temps are variable - last year was colder than average - but I would say May is a little early.
Likely temperatures will be around 20C, whereas it can be 30C in early September.
It is relative. I lived in Sweden and 23C was seen as pretty close to tropical, and I often swam at 16C. These days I prefer at least 25C !
It seems to be about 14C at present. Watch it here : http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/ukm.html
