Taxis in France: Question on Fares (per person charge?)

Hi,

Sorry if this sounds remedial :-) In receiving estimates on taxi fares, is it to be considered the full charge (ie, same for 1 person as 4)? Just want to head off any surprises. Thank you for any guidance.

No matter how many people, you pay the fare on the meter plus charges for baggage, etc.

|||

For up to three(3) passengers (assuming no baggage) the metered fare is what you pay. There is an official surcharge of 2,70€ each for a 4th or 5th passenger....and a surcharge of 1 € per bag (after the 1st) for each piece of luggage. These surcharges will be ADDED separately to the amount shown on the meter.

There is a %26#39;minimum fare%26#39; of 5,60€ for short rides, regardless of a lesser amount shown on the taxi meter...and surcharges may still apply (at the driver%26#39;s discretion).

There are also different taxi meter %26#39;rates%26#39; that will apply, depending on the time of day or night..or day of the week.

Unless you have telephoned for a dispatched taxi pick up, when you enter the taxi, the driver should start the meter. This initial %26#39;drop%26#39; should be 2,10€. IF you telephone for a dispatched taxi pick-up, there may be more than the 2,10€ %26#39;drop%26#39; on the meter when you enter the taxi. For dispatched pick-ups, the driver %26#39;drops%26#39; the meter when he takes the call...and the meter %26#39;runs%26#39; from that point...not the pick-up point where you enter the taxi

NONE of this is any sort of %26#39;..tourist rip-off..%26#39; and common practice in many cities..

**NO** tip for the driver is included within either the metered fare or any additional passenger or baggage surcharges.

Thanks for the great details. For 4 w/ bags, it could add up. But doesn%26#39;t seem unreasonable. I appreciate being armed w/ the information. Thank you.
