I am going to Paris from Sat-Sat and am thinking I will do one of these on Sunday. I know that Versailles fountains will be running (in June), and that the Bastille Market is in full swing on Sunday.
Do you think I should move the Bastille market to Thursday since its around then too and go to Versailles on Sunday? I just worry about the lines. BUT, I did think that its the first Sunday in June so maybe everyone will be at the Louvre.
Thoughts?

I%26#39;m not entirely sure on this point, but I believe that the fountains at Versailles are only on during the weekends, so if you do want to see them, then Sunday might be your only opportunity.
The lines at Versailles in the summer will be huge, but I think if you buy the train ticket and entrance ticket together, that will help. Do a search on here for info regarding Versailles tickets. Also, I think if you have the museum pass, you can skip the long line (but you still have to line up for security I believe).
One of the nice things about going to Versailles on a Sunday is that so many shops/restaurants in Paris are closed on Sundays, so you won%26#39;t be missing as much if you are spending the day in Versailles.
Have fun.

You%26#39;re really stretching apples-to-oranges. The two activities aren%26#39;t even close to comparable. One is a %26#39;..wonder-of-the-world..%26#39; the other is a pretty good street market. The ONLY way to make any sort of decision is solely on the basis of your own personal preferences and priorities.
In any event, you should SEARCH or scroll back through the very detailed information and directions for getting from Paris out to Chateau de Versailles and carry them with you as a ready aide memoire for the trip out to Versailles from Paris...as mood, moment or opportunity present.

There%26#39;s also a gorgeous marche in the centre of Versailles village on Sunday morning.

KDS Am I reading correctly that the fountains are every Saturday and Sunday beginning in April thru October? How horrible will the crowds be for the 7:30 on either night in May will the Sunday night be less crowded? My 12 yr old really wants to go to Versailles but I did not think we would have enough time on this trip as we have too much to do away from paris. I would be glad to take him in the evening if this is the case and the crowds getting back to Paris will not be awful. What time should we leave paris on the train to see the Chateau and the fountains at 7:30. We are staying in the 7th
thanks for your input

thanks for replies
Obviously I know they are very different...and it goes without saying that the most famous palace in the world is a little different then a street market.
I just know the crowds on weekends are horrible (from my experience at least) and bastille market is more active on sunday. Just trying to guage fountains/crowds of versailles vs bustling energy of market. I am in Paris for a week so can go to Versailles other days too.

We were at Versailles on a Sunday in October and it was just mobbed! In spite of getting there an hour before opening were incredibly crowded the whole time in the chateau. It was almost impossible to relax at all and enjoy the fabulousness. The gardens were much less jammed, though and we did have a nice trip overall and will go back some day. But never again on a Sunday.

The preliminary schedule for 2009 for the LES GRANDES EUAX MUSICALE fountain shows--
APRIL 4th to OCTOBER 25th--
Saturday, Sunday and holidays--mornings--11:00 to 12:00 %26amp; afternoons--3:30 PM to 5:30 PM
MAY 12th to JUNE 23rd--additional presentation on Tuesdays--mornings--11:00 to 12:00 and afternoons--2:30 PM to 4:00 PM
So, there are no Les GRANDES EAUX MUSICALE presentation at 7:30 (19:30) in the evening. The presentations on Saturdays %26amp; Sundays will end at approx 17:30 (5:30 PM)....and so you will be mixed in with the regular %26#39;traffic%26#39; departing the chateau at closing. There%26#39;s no telling what %26#39;crowds%26#39; may be like on any given day...except to say that you may expect %26#39;traffic%26#39; will be %26#39;heavier%26#39; on weekends...but certainly manageable...via the RER %26#39;C-5%26#39; ligne from VERSAILLES-Rive Gauche station, for you (staying in the 7eme) to CHAMP de MARS-TOUR EIFFEL).
RER %26#39;C-5%26#39; ligne train frequency from VERSAILLES-Rive Gauch is 1-every-15 mins. So if you arrive at the station from the chateau and the train waiting at the station is full, you need only wait a few minutes to board and find seats on the next train. The train ride from there to CHAMP de MARS-TOUR EIFFEL is 26 mins. So, even allowing for %26#39;heavier%26#39; week-end %26#39;traffic%26#39; the trip shouldn%26#39;t be bad at all.

May I suggest that all you folks who rush to Versailles %26quot;first thing%26quot; ,,,, don%26#39;t!
I have been to Versailles at 6 or 7 times now, my experience is the crowds are worse in the morning. Last summer , in July, I took DD and we arrived around 1 pm.. we did have the pass so walked right in( there is always a long line if you don%26#39;t have a pass) .. and found the Chateau,, almost civilized.. LOL, I could actaully see down the Hall of Mirrors ,, it had lots of people in it, but WAY less then usaul , when one only sees a %26quot; sea of bobbing heads%26quot;.
Many people go in morning, do Chateau, then spend afternoon in gardens and outbuildings. Why not go at least a bit later, after 12 anyways. This technique worked well for me a the Orsay also,, where I did not have a pass, but only had to wait about 10-15 mintues when I went after 11 am.
You could do market in moring and Versailles in afternoon.
PS For poster whos 12 yr old dd wants to go,, take her, my dd was 12 and loved it, and had read all about Marie Antionette so it meant alot to her. Don%26#39;t miss a chance to feed her this way.

what I was maybe thinking is if I went to versailles was maybe go to the gardens in the morning like you said, take my time eat lunch then go to versailles...kind of like you said
b/c really who cares what order you do them in...unless its raining in the morning or something in which case I wouldn%26#39;t go that day anyway....
thanks for comment...i was thinking that too but great advice :-)
