The D943, the road that crosses the Luberon from Lourmarin to Bonnieux, has collapsed and is closed due to the heavy rain we have had of late. As this is the only road that crosses the Luberon those staying in Lourmarin will have quite a long detour when visitng the Luberon hill villages.

Thanks for posting that Wilko. The rain we%26#39;ve had (in the Vaucluse) in the past few months has been unbelievable. I cannot tell you how many roads have been washed out around me. The river/stream levels are at heights I have never before seen. The snow melt off the Ventoux is flowing like a raging river and the rain/snow is still in the forecast.
Thank goodness there is sunshine today. Almost forgot what it looked like...

Just read this post. We will be based in Avignon around the first week of March and planned to rent a car to visit the smaller towns of Provence. Is this a wise idea given what you said about the rain that the area has been receiving?

Oh you%26#39;ll be fine. Don%26#39;t change any plans. The sun has come back out and many of the roads have already been patched up. Those, such as the one Wilko posted about should be back up and running before too long. Even if a road is closed, there will be deviation routes marked.
Don%26#39;t worry. We (meaning me and Wilko - amongst millions of others) live here and we%26#39;re getting around just fine.
No worries.

Thanks so much for the info. I am extremely excited to be visiting your part of the world.
