St. Ouen and purses...

I have been to St. Ouen but it was back in 2002 (had everything stolen from me too, passport, $1200, camera, you name it) and I can%26#39;t seem to remember if there was a huge selction of purses there to buy.

My finace wants to get a nice purse in Paris and I know much may be knock-offs at the flea markets but they do sell them there, correct?

Narlo,

how did they steal your passport, camara and money??? pickpocket?

Long story but my ex-wife (so glad she is too, geez) was purchasing a necklace and she had a mini backpack but it was wrapped around her front. She opened it up and took the strap off of one arm just long enough to open it up and get the money and some guy (dark skinned African I assume) ran up and just yanked it off her other arm and ran into this apartment complex that was gated. He was buzzed in opr he knew the code, got in quickly and shut the door behind him and was gone...

By the way, the African comment was noting racist at all, but he stood out like a sore thumb and I was shocked he was so bold considering he didn%26#39;t blend in if you know what I mean.

$1200, BOTH passports, camera, credit crads, etc. This was a Saturday morning and the Embassy and Consolulate were closed till Monday morning, but my flight left Monday morning! We had about $40 in Euro change at the hotel room on the table and in my pocket.

I had no idea she had all that stuff in her purse, I wouldnt have carried all that, but she did. It all worked out.

Thanks you Narlo,

We want to go to the st Ouen flea market. I guess we just have to be extracareful

Good luck in your trip

We went to the markets, but only to the antique one. There were shops that specialised in Vintage bags, such as Chanel, but I%26#39;m afraid all the things I picked up to examine (not in the Chanel shop) were right out of my price range. We didn%26#39;t go to the %26quot;normal%26quot; market, I%26#39;d had enough of high prices by then.

Very doubtful you will find knockoffs - French law is very tight on that - and it is one of the laws they actually enforse.

|||

Wiz - you get off the metro at St Ouen and their are dozens of men selling knock of Dior bags. They are all over that market. For a nice handbag at St Ouen, head for for the Paul Bert market. There are not that many stands, and frankly, for the same price, you%26#39;ll have a much better selection at Reciproque, a consignment shop on the rue de la Pompe in the 16th.

Phread knows what she%26#39;s talking about (has a vintage clothing business), I would suggest you check out her recommendations.
