Paris in March

I have just found out that we will be going to Paris March 19-25. This is our 3rd trip to Paris since 2006 and we are so excited. The plan was Italy for our 10th anniversary, but hisband changed jobs so one week in Paris it is. We are renting an apartment in the 15th on Rue Vaugirard from a friend%26#39;s mother. Is there a plaque there that pays tribute to the people of the Vel h%26#39;Hive? I have read there was and I would like to find it after reading about it. Also, we are not far from Rue Cambronne and want to know anything about the neighborhood that others may know. We have the e-mails from the apartment owner and have goodle earthed the neighborhood but any new info would be great.

When I studied abroad, une amie lived with her host family on Rue Cambronne - I remember it being safe and typically %26quot;Paris-picturesque%26quot;.

Also, if I%26#39;m remembering right, Vaugirard is very close to Institute Catholique - a safe and pretty area as well.

Have fun!

Hi Iroccaf

I just read the book %26quot;Sarah%26#39;s Key%26quot; regarding the Vel d%26#39;hive. Since we will be in Paris in April/May I looked this up and from what I found there is a memorial center devoted to this behind Notre Dame on the I%26#39;le de Cite...I believe it is called the Deportation Memorial. I have just spoken to someone who was just there and they said it was very moving. Hope this helps.

Hi Iroccaf

I live close to Place Cambronne, it is a nice neighbourhood to stay in. There are lots of restaurants around, Place Cambronne has a few that are good to sit out in. Also the area around the Mairie in the 15th - rue Peclet has a small square and a couple of restaurants which are OK, as does the square around Convention metro. Rue du Commerce is not that far away, a good shopping street. Square St Lambert is a nice small park, if the weather is good.

Re the Vel d%26#39;Hive at Bir Hakeim metro station on the platforms (nearest to Tour Eiffel) there is a display of photographs and information regarding the deportations, which is worth stopping for 5 minutes to have a look at if you are interested, and a small memorial on Bd Grenelle. Have a look at pagesperso-orange.fr/memoire78/…vel.html.

Re the weather in March it is very hard to predict. My son%26#39;s birthday is beginning of March and two weeks after he was born we were walking around in t-shirts, can also remember being on holiday in March and sitting outside for breakfast and dinner. So you may be lucky!! Or, you may have cold and rain. Just have to keep your fingers crossed

Thank you so much for your responses. One of our Paris trips was in March 2006 and it was very cold. We are so excited to be going back and hope for good weather, cold is ok with us, and I will be checking the forecasts in the days before we leave. The woman we are renting the apartment from told us about a pizza place called Pizza Flora and about Le Copreau not far from the apartment. I did not know about the photos at the Bir Haikem metro. I will try to find those. I am going to find the plaque on Blvd. Grenelle.

I also read Sarah%26#39;s Key. I had no idea about the Vel d%26#39;Hive but I thought I would try to find the plaque. When I read the book I realized that on eof the people the author thanks on her acknowledgement page is the wife of the man we rented our last Paris apartment from. It truly is becoming a small world.
