An airline at my local airport (LGW) will be satrting new flights to Nice in April, and the times mean a day trip (with over 8 hours in the city) is entirely possible.
I know I won`t get to see much but are there any pointers on the best way to spend the day and were to go with such limited time.
Thanks

Don%26#39;t pick a Monday if you can help it because small shops [and the markets] don%26#39;t open on mondays
some museums are shut mondays and some are shut tuesdays to if you had a particular place in mind chack the opening days.
for a one day visit i%26#39;d suggest the hop on hop off bus tour

Don%26#39;t know what time you%26#39;ll arrive, but here would be my day%26#39;s itinerary.
Airport bus to central bus station.
Walk through the old town and find the Cours Saleya for the market. Hopefully you%26#39;ll be there before 11am, things start to shut at 12, by 1pm it%26#39;s pretty much all gone. Have a coffee in one of the cafes around the market. Wander round the market.
Depending on the time, I%26#39;d explore the old town and the castle hill (for views), and find somewhere for lunch in the old town. For a snack lunch, Chez Renee bar where you can buy plates of local snack food. For a sit down lunch, there are plenty of places depending on your budget and food preference. If you like seafood, I%26#39;d go to the Cafe de Turin for a plate of prawns.
After lunch, a ride on the tram. If it%26#39;s sunny, I%26#39;d make my way to the promenade and walk off lunch, maybe stop in one of the beach bars (if open) for a glass of wine and relax looking over the sea. If it%26#39;s dull, I%26#39;d go to the Museum of Modern Art. Or, I%26#39;d take a bus up to Cimiez for the Matisse museum, Roman remains, monastery garden and great views.
Back down to town for the bus back to the airport.

Wholly agree with MC%26#39;s ideas but does your eight hours allow for travel to and from the airport and for check in? All of which could take a total of around three hours. For 50 euro you could get somewhere reasonable to spend the night and have a more leisurely trip.

Thankyou. yes the 8 hours is literally the time I first set foot into the town centre to when i get in a taxi back to the airport. So plenty of time

Well worth doing. You are sure to want to return for longer the next time.A very convenient location for tourists.

Me quibbling again. One April we knew that we had to check out of our hotel at 10.00am with our flight at 6.00pm. I assured my wife that this would be no problem as we could just stroll around in the sun. On the day there was continuous torrential rain, much heavier than we ever get in SE England. Keep an eye on the forecast and book your trip only if it is set fair.
