I night in Paris - which area to stay?

We arrive in Paris on the Eurostar (Paris Nord) at 9pm. We need to drop our bags at a hotel and hit the town. Then to sleep and up the next morning to see whatever else we can.

We leave from Gare Est station the next day at 3pm. As you can see we don%26#39;t have much time. Can anyone recommend an area to stay in? I like the location of the Latin Quarter and there are plenty of hotels for under Euro 150. How practical would that area be to get to and from the stations.
