how to spend the evenings

hi

having worked out what and where to go for 6 days ,im left wondering about things to do in the evenings

we are 2 adults 2 teens staying near the port/old town

so any ideas for this locality would be appreciated

we are not looking for pubs or clubs (rarely drink)

A picnic on the beach is always fun.

or eat dinner and wander around - get an icecream and people watch. watch the street musicians and dancers

go bowling or to the cinema

when exactly are you coming?

You won%26#39;t be bored. The people watching is wonderful. So many relaxing strolls through the old town, or along the seaside. And you don%26#39;t need to drink alcohol to enjoy a spell at an outdoor Cafe. If you have busy daytime agendas, I%26#39;d keep things loose and just enjoy.

Depending on when you%26#39;re in Nice, there may be plenty going on. If you can manage the French, there are several small theatres as well as the large one. A couple of cinemas do %26quot;original version%26quot; films. Plenty of music venues, maybe a football or rugby match. Bowling, stroll along the promenade or hire bikes / roller skates/blades. There%26#39;s also the opera.

The velib bikes should be around in August, all going well. they are supposed to be ready in July.

These are bikes that can be picked up from sort of bike stations and returned to others elsewhere avoiding the hassle of bike security or finding a place to put them, inside a house/flat.

The hire rate will be very cheap too

Dinner in the Cours Saleya, which can seat more than 2,000 people, is one of my favourite activities. There will be accordionists, sometimes acrobats and an atmosphere of great good humour.

There is a huge mediaeval fair at cagnes sur mer 8/9th august

During August there are open air concerts going on in the Theatre de Verdure in the Albert 1er Gardens. It should be warm enough to just stroll around in the evening - there%26#39;ll be lots of buskers in the old town. Usually the town council put on all sorts of things specially for the tourist season.

There is also usually an sort of musical strolling theatre thing on the top of castle hill

called something like Nuits des castellada but I%26#39;m not sure how it would be for non french speakers.

I totally agree the people watching is fantastic and if anyone had said to me that I would have even considered doing this before I first went to Nice I would have thought they were mad. I have to say though on my last visit this was spoilt somewhat in the second week by groups of tourists (who were obviously all together) just sitting on the floor in the Place du Palais-de-Justice - prime people watching spot.

Does anyone know if the piano man still around?
