Guyancourt / Monitgny -le- Brettonneux area questions

I%26#39;ll be arriving in Paris at the end of this month for a 10 day vacation, and for the first 4 days will be staying with a friend in the Guyancourt / Monitgny -le- Brettonneux area. I plan on visiting Versailles. Can anyone recommend any other interesting things to do or see in this area? This will be my first visit to Paris. I am getting pretty excited, I REALLY need a vacation! Am curious to see what Paris is like! Thanks %26amp; regards, TC

All I know is my husband played golf around there (two courses)... won%26#39;t your friend recommend what to do around there? It%26#39;s a little distance away from Paris.

As for Paris itself, just scan the forum titles for %26#39;things to do%26#39;, read the Overview sections...

Yes, I%26#39;m sure my friend will have some suggestions of things to do around the area as she has lived there for many years. Since I have gotten so much good information from this forum I thought I would ask what other folks might recommend. I realize this area is a ways out from Paris that is why I would like to have some suggestions on things to do or see. I%26#39;ll be staying in Paris for 6 days and have my itinerary pretty much figured out for that portion of my trip. I am so looking forward to it, things should be fun. Thanks %26amp; regards, TC

This area is mainly a recent residential suburb, with parks, woods, little towns, business parks, etc.

When you go to Versailles, do not visit only the Castle but the city itself as well. It boasts a significant amount of old buildings, little squares, baroque churches and nice private mansions.

By train, you can also go to Meudon and its famous Terrasse de l%26#39;Observatoire, where you will enjoy a fantastic view over Paris and its agglomeration.

Lastly, you can catch the train to La Défense and visit the modern business district. You will have to avoid taking your train during rush hours if you want to have a comfortable ride though!

If you have a car, and if you like the countryside, you can visit Vallée de la Chevreuse: it%26#39;s a natural park with lovely mansions, rivers, farms, woods, villages, etc. It%26#39;s much more enjoyable if the weather is nice of course (which is not garanteed in February)
