Taking the wife and kids (ages 2, 4, 6) to Villefranche this August for a bit over a week. Which beaches in the area are the best for families? Perhaps a beach with nice calm water and actual sand. Also, we%26#39;d consider the option of going to a %26quot;private beach%26quot; so we can rent lounge chairs (matelas, I think they%26#39;re called in French) and have an easy place to get lunch.
Thanks for the help. This forum has (already) been very useful in preparing for our trip.

For real sand, you will have to go west from Nice to Antibes and beyond.
August will be very busy. Juan Les Pins and Golfe Juan both have good beaches which are great for families and a mixture of free (public) and private areas with matelas. Both have numerous places to eat, either directly on the beach or very close by. In August the train from Nice will give the easiet access.

Villefranche beach is a kind of fine gravel rather than the large stones of Nice. There was a small area last year with loungers for hire but as they have now demolished the beach restaurant I guess there will be none this year. Provided the swarms of jelly fish don%26#39;t turn up this year it is excellent for swimming, with a large area closed to boats and life guards on duty in high season.
There are a number of small beaches on nearby Cap Ferrat which are never very crowded, even in August.

Thanks to both of your for the information.
My further research has %26#39;uncovered%26#39; Plage Passable over in St Jean Cap Ferrat. Seems small, option of doing the matelas rental thing, sheltered, gravel instead of big stones, etc. Do either of you know if there is parking nearby?
Thanks again.

You might want to try Paloma beach on Cap Ferrat. This has loungers, parasols and a great restaurant Although it is a pebble beach it is safe for little ones.

Hi,
I%26#39;m from San Fran too.Want to travel early July with my wife to St. Jean Cap Ferrat. Did you find good hotel and good private beach? I appreciate your prompt response. Please e-mail me b.slusky@comcast.net

Hi Consultant
it really depends on what your budget is for a hotel. All the hotels on Cap Ferrat are near the beaches. There are also a couple of good beaches towards Beaulieu Sur Mer. Beaulieu is an easy 30 minute walk along the coast following a really scenice walkway. At the end of this is the Hotel Royal Riviera which is a good option. If you have any questions on the area, I%26#39;ll be happy to help.
