Coming to Paris mid March. Arriving around 7:30 a.m. on a Friday. I was going to just take a taxi, but it is rush hour so...should we go the shuttle route or better yet, take a car service? Recommendations please. Thanks. (Don%26#39;t want to have to call anyone since cell phone won%26#39;t be working. Just either want someone holding a sign or having a pre arranged place to meet.)

Hi Sandy. I guess one of the first questions to determine what your best option is would be the number of people in your party. Generally if it is 2, then a shuttle is a little more economical, but if it%26#39;s more, then a taxi is probably your better bet.
Last summer, we used parishuttle.com and we were very happy with the service. We were also traveling to a hotel in the Tuileries area, and it was 20 euros per person if I recall correctly. We did have to telephone them when we arrived though - but only from the public phones in the airport. It was a toll free call so we didn%26#39;t need any coins. The person we spoke with was fluent in English and told us exactly which doors to exit to meet our driver. We didn%26#39;t have to wait long, and we were then on our way with three other couples.
There is another poster on this forum who recommends a private shuttle service. I think it might be gracejoan, so if you do a search, you may find some of the threads where she gives the contact info so that you could determine the costs for the private car service that she uses.
Have a nice trip.

Thanks PMMC - We are just 2, my husband and I. I will check out the service you used. Did you have a long wait? After the overnight flight I know we%26#39;ll be ready to get to our hotel, even though we probably won%26#39;t be able to check into our room. Also, these public phones you mentioned...are there many of them in the baggage claim area? Thanks again for your help.

Yes, they are just pay phones located throughout the airport. After you pick up your luggage from the baggage claim and you go to exit the airport, you will find lots of payphones. The exits are numbered and the person at parishuttle (note just one %26quot;s%26quot; in it - there are other shuttle services that aren%26#39;t as reputable that have two %26quot;s%26quot; in the name) that you speak with on the phone will tell you the exact number exit to go out and wait for your shuttle. We didn%26#39;t wait long - I think about 5 or 10 minutes but that was because the driver had to pick up the other parties on the way.
Our driver was really wonderful. He gave us a commentary on the sights we were seeing along the way. He spoke 4 languages! We also used parishuttle.com for our return to CDG, and it all went well.
If you do decide to book with them (you have to do this before you leave and pay in advance by credit card/paypal), you have to confirm with them a day or two before your flight. I just sent an email to confirm and did the same for our return trip.

Thanks again. They sound perfect for our needs. As long as you%26#39;ve been so helpful, I was going to post another thread, but I%26#39;ll ask you first; Is just about everything walkable from the Tuileries area? We%26#39;re planning on doing lots of leisurely walking around. I assume we can walk to areas such as Ile de la Cite, Ile St-Louis, Marias and the other way down the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe. Am I correct? You%26#39;ve be really helpful. (C%26#39;mon down to NYC and I%26#39;ll help you out! :) )

Hi again Sandy. Yes, we walked everywhere from our hotel near the Tuileries. We walked to Notre Dame and Ste. Chapelle on our first day, and then all around Ile de la Cite. On the next day, we went across the Seine to the Musee d%26#39;Orsay, to the Rodin Museum and Les Invalides, then back across the Pont Alexandre and back to the hotel. Later that day we then walked through the Tuileries to Place de la Concorde, along the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe and then back to hotel again. However, we were there in the summer so the weather was ideal for walking. You will still be able to walk most places, but just dress accordingly.
Have a wonderful time!!

Hi,
If still looking for airport transportation, I am the one mentioned earlier. This private vehicle service, http://www.shuttle-inter.com/homepage.htm
is really great. I have used it many, many times and now others are also using it regularly. I have recently made my reservations with them for April/May.
They will be outside the security exit door with your name on a sign, tkae your luggage to a nearby vehicle and you will be off. No calls to make etc.
They watch for flight delays and make necessary adjustments.
I have used them so much that my charge is 40 euros each way! They earlier told me to tell all my %26quot;friends%26quot; to mention my name, as they would like to give them a discount..it seems that they are giving them 5 euros off in one direction. If you use them, just mention Joan Grace...
Enjoy you trip....
Joan
