horse racing near Paris

Does horse racing have a %26quot;season%26quot;? Would like to attend a race...prefer jump/steeplechase racing.

The Hippodrome du Auteuil in the edge of Bois du Boulogne is the Paris course for jumpers. Hemingway was once a regular there and its entrance is a few feet from the Metro Line 10 Porte d%26#39;Auteuil exit. They don%26#39;t run during July and August but have meetings March thru December. It%26#39;s a great course and not crowded, except for certain Premier race days, since there%26#39;s off-track betting in certain Cafes all over Paris and France.

Enghien, about an hour North of Paris also has jump meets, and Hemingway said it was his favorite track of all.

Here%26#39;s a link to a calendar of French Racing:

I am not familar with horse racing, but I do know they have a nice track in Chantilly, near the Royal Stables and the Horse Museum, as well as the Chateau. Could be a lovely day trip, its only a 30 minute train ride from Gare du Nord to Chantilly. I do not think they run in the summer.

Chantilly is apparently quite renown for it horse racing /training facilities, I would just google search Chantilly and horse racing and see what pops up. Good luck

Thank you all! Reading all those Dick Francis novels got me interested in actually seeing a jump/steeplechase race.

We have a racecourse here in Houston, but no jump racing.

Planning a return visit to Paris next spring and will include time for the horses.

Also very popular in France is harness racing, which is quite the spectacle.
