Best Corsica City to visit for Weekend.

Hi everyone,

I%26#39;m going to Lyon, France in June (6th - 20th) for an MBA class. The weekend in between those (12th-14th)I was hoping to take a trip over to Corsica but i%26#39;m not sure which town to visit. I%26#39;m an adventurous person who loves the outdoors, so a town that will let me get out and explore is ideal. I%26#39;d also like some nightlife to meet people. Not so much into historical things and buildings, although if there%26#39;s something I %26quot;just HAVE to see%26quot; i%26#39;m not opposed to it. I%26#39;ll likely be traveling solo.

Insights and recommendations are much appreciated.

Thanks,

James

Much as I like Corsica, I would recommend you think again. I presume you would be flying to Corsica, as any other method of travel would leave you no time at all, but any method would be very expensive just for a day or two in Corsica. A car is all but essential in Corsica as public transport is either non-existent of very sparse. You would be spending hundreds of pounds without being able to appreciate what Corsica has to offer. If you must go, I suppose Ajaccio would be the closest to matching your requirements.

Thanks for the reply! I was considering taking the ferry over to corsica, but you are right, it leaves a little less time on the island.

As for needing a car, would there be no hotels near hiking or beachfront destinations that i could just take a taxi to from the ferry terminal?

Finally, It%26#39;ll be my first time to that region of the world. Would you recommend any other places I might want to visit instead, where a weekend would be sufficient to take in at least a little of what the place offers?

You could fly to Bastia for the weekend from Lyon St Exupery (Direct flights with Air France on Friday and Sunday).

You could go walking in Cap Corse from there, though I think you%26#39;d need a taxi (expensive in Corsica!) to get you out of the City. Bastia has a bit of night life and it should be quite lively in June.

Accommodationwise, I%26#39;d consider the Best Western in Bastia itself, though if you want to get away from it all, you could stay in Hotel U Pozzu in Sisco (one of my favourite hotels on the island). DTR

Well basically you have all of Provence at your feet. If you had an interest in history stuff, I%26#39;d have said Avignon, which is a beautiful city, just chock-full of historical stuff about Popes, Emperors and of course the Pont d%26#39;Avignon.

But that apart, Nice and the Cote d%26#39;Azur would be at their absolute peak in June and before the masses get there. So get the TGV down to the coast, you can use trains/public transport to move along the coast to Cannes, Antibes etc. Watch the beautiful people and drink over-priced coffee. I don%26#39;t know if evening transport is available, but you can also visit Monaco, go in the casino and marvel at where the Grand Prix circuit goes.

I second Derekthered%26#39;s suggestion of BASTIA because of:

- EASYJET flights Lyon to Bastia, not every day however;

- ease of getting to walking spots, see following website for transport options : www.corsicabus.org.
