Aix or Lyon or Geneva

Everyone,

My wife and I will be in Paris during the week of May 25, but are looking for a relaxing weekend away from Paris from May 29th-31.

We have narrowed down to three places. Aix or Lyon or Geneva.

We are looking for a relaxing weekend to get away from the big city and relax in a more quiet atmosphere. I%26#39;ve been researching on the forums, but wanted to post and get some updated thoughts.

As I am not familiar with any of these areas perhaps I%26#39;m missing another place to go to as well.

Any insight would be extremely helpful.

Thanks so much in advance!

Lyon is a large city although very rich in history and culture. I have never been but I hear it is a nice place. Although, it seems you are looking for a relaxing escape from the big city (Paris) so I would not recommend Lyon.

I have been to Aix and it is a beautiful medium size Provencal city. Aix has a lot of sidewalk cafes, especially along Cours Mirabeau (a tree lined avenue that is adjacent to the large fountain in the centre-ville. It is also near a lot of Provence tourist sights. However, there are a lot of young college students in Aix so take that into consideration as well. Aix is definitely a beautiful and relaxing city though, if you want to enjoy a typical Provence city in southern France.

I have never been to Geneva but I am told that it%26#39;s beautiful because of the mountains and Lac Lemon. It is a very expensive and ritzy city as well. Lots of high-end shops and retailers. If you want a city that is surrounded by the beautiful French-Swiss Alps then Geneva is the place to go. Otherwise, I would highly recommend Aix. Geneva or Aix are easily accessible by TGV as well. Hope that helps a little.
