Hi,
4 of us will be arriving in Paris on Sunday at Gare du Nord and staying on Ile de St Louis. I see from another posting that a taxi is recommended for the transfer. How about later in the day when we need to be at the Eiffel Tower for a 6pm cruise booking - what is the best way to get there and how much time should we allow?
After the cruise we plan to go up the Eiffel Tower and then make our way back to our apartment - I was thinking about a nice stroll via perhaps a cafe or bar for a light snack? I recall seeing something about one of Paris%26#39;s oldest bars which doesn%26#39;t take reservations where politicians and notable people used to go but I%26#39;ve mislaid the name. I%26#39;m sure it is somewhere between the Eiffel Tower and the Ile St Louis. Any ideas? Would it be too far to walk back home after going up the Tower?
One last question - is it possible to do a tour of the Opera House?
Thanks so much for all help.

A taxi or the metro will be easy to get to Ile St. Louis. On our trip, we used the metro everyday, a few times a day. I think the best and easiest way to travel anywhere in Paris is the metro. There are maps all over the place and it is very easy to navigate.
I don%26#39;t have any restaurant suggestions, we just walked past a place, checked out their menu (since almost everywhere posts it in the front) and then chose where to eat that way.
My boyfriend and I walked from Place de la Concorde (about 20 minutes, maybe further from the Eiffel Tower) back to our hotel in the Marais and it was quite a hike, plus it was cold.
Are you talking about Opera Garnier? I know you can get a tour of there. We went in, but we could not get a tour because they were rehearsing, so I would try to call ahead to check if they have any tours on Sundays. I think they have Wednesday and Saturday tours, but I am unsure of Sunday.

Well you haven%26#39;t actually told us where you are staying so we can%26#39;t advise which metro to take to get to ET from where you are staying, but yes, metro is fastest way around city. You should find which metro station is closest to your hotel, most hotel websites tell you that, same with apt. rental, look on the information page, they almost always tell you that.
I would however take a taxi when you arrive,, asuming you have luggage, just to make it easier to get to your hotel. It won%26#39;t cost much so why not. I assume you have packed lightly so you will all fit in one taxi.

St-Louis isle, where you said you%26#39;ll be staying, is centrally located, but the Eiffel Tower isn%26#39;t. So it%26#39;s a long walk, might want to walk just part of the way.
The oldest bar you%26#39;re reffering to is probably the Café Procope www.procope.com/index.php?lang=en
To find the closest metro station to where you%26#39;ll be staying here is a map (give it a moment to download) parisbytrain.com/files/2008/10/metro_geo.pdf
